History
At the first conference about population ecology of raptors and owls in Meisdorf (Germany) 1986, professor Prof. Dr. Michael Stubbe called for the consolidation of all activities directed at raptors and owls. The feedback of the ornithologists of the country was enormous. In 1988, after some planning, the Monitoring Raptors and Owls was founded by Dr. Kai Gedeon and Prof. Dr. Michael Stubbe at the institute for zoology at the Martin-Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg. After this, a stable net of field workers was established as well as a computer based database. After 1993, Biologist Ubbo Mammen came to the project as a successor to K. Gedeon. From 1990-1994 the project was significantly supportet by the German Department of the Environment. In the year 2002, a society was founded to create constant support for the monitoring work. Since 2004, the project is supported by the Game Conservancy Deutschland e.V.
