Verbreitung: Die Sumpfohreule kommt im nördlichen Eurasien und in Nordamerika vor.

Interessantes: Die Brutpopulationen in Mitteleuropa fielen insbesondere der Zerstörung der Feuchtgebiete zum Opfer. In Deutschland brütet sie nur in wenigen Regionen, am häufigsten an der Nordseeküste und den ostfriesischen Inseln.
